For several years we joined Barb McCoy of Harmony Art Fine Arts who used to post a simple new Sketch Tuesday topic each week. She encouraged anyone to take part, even moms and Dads, and this assignment was completely open, so anyone could participate. She presented all the submitted sketches in a slideshow and the children loved to see each other’s contributions. It is totally FUN!
I believe that these regular, informal sketch sessions developed my daughters’ creativity. They are all still practicing their art as young adults, wives and mothers. Read the advantages of participating regularly that I have seen in our taking part in Sketch Tuesday.

Wow! I am an elementary art educator and have been out searching for drawing activities in class. You have done a great job at teaching your children about the art elements. I am amazed at the level your daughter Lara was at even at 8 years old. It was really fun to go through these you have given me several ideas. Plus if you wouldn’t mind maybe I can show them an adult sample and a child’s sample so that they too can see they can do it! Your examples are fantastic! Thanks for sharing!

Nadine, I’m excited to give Sketch Tuesdays a try, but my kids are much younger, six and seven. Any tips? And what is your favorite medium for young kids? Pencil and paper? I notice that your girls use more than this. I’m not an artist at all so the art supply aisle overwhelms me! Thanks, Mary

My son (7) loves drawing but he only draws soldiers and trucks. This is a wonderful idea for me to stretching him to drawing something different. I admitted that I have save enough pictures of armies and trucks.
