Hands on ~ Cricket in Times Square!

We have just started reading Cricket in Times Square and a creative learning moment presented itself ~ to make a matchbox bed for a small cricket.

To make the model cricket we had to study crickets in our Insect Field Guide. One child made her cricket (she called Cricky) out of felt and the other made her cricket (called Chirp) out of cardboard. They decorated their boxes and played games with them in the afternoon.

Isn’t this a wonderful way to make the story come to life?

I'd love to hear your thoughts!
